Looking for a great sandwich and soup, go to Herbie's. Sweet owner, great food, service, prices and nice story behind the business. I had a cup of Chowder and a tuna sandwich, custom made with all the fixings including yummy horseradish sauce. If you are in CDA and feeling hungry, check out Herbie's...and don't miss out on a cup of chowder to start!

Tried the Reuben and the chicken avocado. Both were top notch and the service was very attentive.

Went here for lunch today. I had the triple decker club and my wife had a half Greek salad and cup of clam chowder. Awesome. Food 5/5 Server 5/5 Speed of food delivery 3/5 (only had one person making sandwiches) Our server was soooo friendly and checked on us multiple times to ensure our experience was the best. We will be back!

In town from San Francisco, we stopped in looking for a few good sandwiches for lunch and were blown away! Everything is home made! Fresh focaccia straight from the over, home made sauces and dressings, meat sliced upon order, our sandwiches melted in our mouths. I got the pesto turkey and my husband got the BBQ melt...both were superb. The ambiance is lacking but the food and service exceed expectations. The great Owners are extremely friendly and serve you.

I tried the cranberry turkey and Ruben. I recommend both. Very good sandwiches for a good price. The staff was very nice. The location is in a strip mall across from the fair grounds so its a good location.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Herbie's based on the reviews. We went out on a limb and ordered the taco salad and the Italiano to share. The salad was average but crisp and fresh. The sandwich was pretty basic as well but the olive spread gave it a little twist. Best thing about the whole deal was the bread. When you walk in, they have it laying out and smelling wonderful. It was soft, thin, and tasty. The bread always makes the sandwich. Overall, the service was excellent, wait staff friendly and accommodating. The next time I go, which I will, I'm ordering the haut dog coney style. Chili, cheese... That thing looks unbelievable.

Fantastically tasty salads and sandwiches! I had a crispy salad dressed with sesame ginger dressing and my partner had the most delicious build-your-own sandwich. Great service, fun clean decor, and awesome healthy food--what more could you want?

Great sandwiches: we got the turkey pesto and turkey avocado. Bread is really good and everything tasted fresh. My kids shared a big bowl of delicious chili.

Herbies's Deli serves up great soups, sandwiches and chili. The deli has the best sandwiches in Coeur d' Alene. Try the Ruben. The service is good and the sandwiches are prepared with care with fresh meats and vegetables. At lunch the place can be crowded and it can be hard to find a table. So, come early. Parking is easy in front of this deli in a strip mall across from the Fairgrounds.

(SEE UPDATE BELOW) Last week I was invited to have lunch with some good friends. They suggested Herbie's Deli Shop in Coeur d'Alene just across from the Fairgrounds on Government Way. The exterior belies the large bright interior. The tables are not crowded next to each other allowing for conversation and ease of seating. As soon as we arrived we we met and served drinks and provided menus and information regarding the specials and other choices. The sandwich selections sounded very interesting. In addition homemade soups are offered daily and specials, including soups are changed monthly. Herbie's provides take home menus, monthly special calendars and weekly special flyers. I ordered a classic corned beef sandwich on rye. The homemade soup of the day was ordered as well as well as a pastrami sandwich (in place of the tuna melt which was not available), a salad and a rueben. My dining party was completely impressed with every selection. I only have two minor suggestions - not complaints - replace or offer in addition to the "marbled" rye, an authentic rye. The wonderful corned beef is TOO good to be served with less than an authentic rye bread. While the dill pickle was very good, don't slice it into small slivers. Serve at least 1/2 of a top quality dill pickle that stands up to a great corned beef! The service was great. I met one of the owners who obviously has a real passion for crafting and serving wonderfully and carefully prepared food to diners. What more could one ask for? Oh yeah - price. As you can see from the menu at cdafoodie.com , the prices are very reasonable. (UPDATE: After eating at Herbie's Deli I had occasion to travel to Chicago where I actually compared the corned beef sandwiches at Herbie's and The Berghoff Restaurant in the downtown Loop area of Chicago. The Berghoff is a a very famous old line Chicago German restaurant. It's reputation is impeccable. The food is amazing. MY score: The Berghoff Corned Beef: "A+". Herbie's Corned Beef: "A".) Serve Herbie's sandwich on authentic rye and a big dill pickle the we'll add a "++" to Herbie's rating. Do yourself a favor and get over to Herbie's for a great sandwich, salad or panini.

Yelp led us to Herbie's on our cross country road trip. Wow! Super friendly service. This place clearly values its local community, and in turn gets a lot of return business. More importantly the food is delicious and healthy. We got a grilled vegetable wrap and chicken panini. To be honest the panini was a bit dry, but the flavors were spot on. Grilled veggie wrap was tasty and filling. If I was a local I'd definitely be back.

Ok, we are visiting here from Sam Diego and were looking for a great sandwich. We came here based on all the Yelp reviews and boy were we happy we did. Fantastic sandwiches and service. My husband had Herbie's Reuben with Pastrami on Sourdough, hold the 1000 Isle. He said the Sauerkraut was the best he's had!! I had the Albacore Tuna Melt on Marble Rye and it was fantastic. Don't pass this sandwich shop up. Thank you Yelper's for your great reviews and recommendations!

They have the best sandwiches in the area. The Italiano is great, and the club is a classic that was very good. The do a nice red potato salad also. The only thing that could be better is, if they were open Sunday too.

Easy place to miss...non descript, aging strip mall location on busy Government Way. Interior is clean but pretty basic. But as often the case, hole-in-the-wall restaurants can sometimes deliver some great food. Such is the case with Herbie's. What Herbie's lacks in decor, they more than make up in their menu offerings. I had the egg salad sandwich, and it was excellent. Served on thick nine-grain bread, everything about it was fresh, Probably the best egg salad sandwich I've ever had. We had a cup of chicken pot pie soup on the side, and it tasted wonderful. My son's black forest ham sandwich was served on a large hoagie roll, and my wife had a cranberry apple salad that was tossed in a light dressing that allowed the flavor of the various lettuces to come through. Finished things up by sharing a homebaked chocolate chip cookie that was very large in size.

I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches, but I absolutely love the homemade sandwiches that are made from scratch at Herbie's Deli. Try one of their Hot Panini sandwiches. Yumm! The prices are economical too. The staff is very friendly. The only thing I would change is the decor.
